Maia Derewicz, Early Childhood Music and Movement Specialist
For more than five years I have been teaching music to babies and children up to nine years. Currently I teach music at the Community Independent School in Pittsboro, the River Rock School in Saxapahaw, and conduct music and movement classes for young children in Chatham and Orange County. Before this I taught music and Spanish at various North Carolina schools for a company called Kidstunes, and I also taught for two years at First Environments, a preschool on the campus of the Environmental Protection Agency in Durham, NC.
I have completed my Level 1 certification with Orff Schulwerk at the University of Massachusetts and Level 2 certification with The Early Childhood Music and Movement Association.
I recently moved out to the country in Chatham County, NC with my two sweet boys, Mark (left) and Rowan (right).
I am the mother of a vivacious little one who is wide open to the miraculous world around him. We spend our days singing, dancing, planting, digging, tasting, smelling, exploring, and running, running, and running some more. Becoming a mother has expanded my life in incredible ways. I see the world differently now. I feel more connected to mother earth and her many miracles. I notice all the quiet details, I taste and smell more, I ask more questions and have reunited once again with my silly side. I watch my little Rowan grow dramatically on a daily basis and it inspires me to do the same.
